ESAF is a social development organization, established in 1992 by a group of Development professionals in kerala. It is registered on 11th March 1992, under the 12th Travancore Cochin Literary and Scientific Charitable Societies Act of vide Reg. No.109/92 with its Head Quarters at Trichur. ESAF started operations with a small career guidance program in the city of Trichur, Kerala. ESAF witnessed a fast growth in the later half of its first decade of existence, and grew to be a leading NGO in India having accreditation's from Central and state Government departments and other agencies.

History

ESAF had a humble beginning in 1992 with a small office in Trichur, by a group of like minded social entrepreneur s in Kerala. The inception of ESAF has been a response to the growing unemployment among the educated youth. The mission at the beginning was to provide career guidance for youth. Over years, ESAF has capitalized on microfinancing and is promoting it as a viable and effective means for poverty eradication and employment creation. Entrepreneurship and confidence in establishing enterprises are considered by ESAF as an important solution for growing poverty and unemployment in Kerala. Inspired by the success of Grameen Bank, the founders of ESAF ventured into micro financing and creation of self sustainable groups to address the concerns of poverty alleviation and employment generation.

Now, ESAF is a strong organization with more than 2.3 lakhs women members pan India .Today, ESAF is one of the leading micro finance institutions in India , effectively intervening social empowering through 91 dedicated branches. In addition to Kerala, where ESAF is a leading player, ESAF operates in Tamil Nadu, Maharshtra, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand.
